In all the craziness that is Oakshire Brewing these days, I forgot to mention that our winter seasonal label was approved by the ttb while we were off in Denver. Ill-Tempered Gnome is a hoppy and complex brown ale of 6.5%. Warming and balanced, the Gnome is certainly a contemplative beer for the cold season ahead. Look for it on draft and 22 oz bottles in the coming weeks. Believe me, you'll want to catch a little gnome before he goes away! Tomorrow, tune in for our first beer makers dinner announcement and menu. cheers!

by Jeff Althouse | Published: September 30, 2009Now that we are settling back into the routine after our GABF trip (didya hear, we earned a silver for Overcast ;) ), we're looking forward to promoting our beers throughout Oregon. The best way to find out where we will be and try a little of our beery goodness is to go to the links to the right and hit Oakshire events and a calendar pops up with all of our upcoming appearances. I want to highlight a few: *EVERY SATURDAY-12-4 Tours and tastings at the brewery. 1055 Madera in Eugene.

by Jeff Althouse | Published: September 28, 2009After a long week in Denver Colorado at the Great American Beer Festival, we were very proud and honored to come away with a silver medal in the coffee beer category for our Overcast Espresso Stout!! We're even more happy that you can find this year round beer in both draft and bottles around the entire state of Oregon! Starting Wednesday, I began judging beers for the GABF. This is my third year judging.

by Jeff Althouse | Published: September 21, 2009Banner...check Table signs...check Extra warm clothes...check Beer to share.....check. Tomorrow morning I leave sunny Eugene Oregon where highs are expected in the 90's. My destination, the often sunny Denver Colorado and the Great American Beer Festival. Tomorrow's high in Denver, 48 with rain. Well, we at Oakshire hope to drag a little sunshine with us to the Rockies and have a great week at the largest beer festival and competition in this country. Preparations have been many as is the norm for this time of year. We all get to head out and that means get the work done early.

On Monday we got to brew the first of our three fresh hop beers. Some people refer to these at Wet Hop Beers. But what really does that mean? by Jeff Althouse | Published: August 22, 2009Today marks one of the most stressful events in my year-bottling competition beers for the GABF. A brewer can spend hours planning, brewing, and tending to a fantastic beer, just to see the long wait in a package create havoc in your creation. As most people know, bottling beer can be devasting to the life of a beer. Light, Oxygen, heat and handling can all influence the taste of beers.

by Jeff Althouse | Published: August 16, 2009Saturday marked the one month anniversary of this crazy little thing we call "Project Bottle-a-lot." While the local feedback has been stellar (and thank you for that), we've found out that our planning ahead in brewery expansion, production schedule and bottling runs has allowed us to send two pallets of bottles to Portland. This should be the first of many shipments to Stumptown. And since we have beer flowing there, Jeff and I are hopping in the car Tuesday and making an appearance or two.
